Chinastar's beautiful siamese fur was exposed to the sun as she stepped out of her den, some careful thinking finished with. She blinked against the harsh sunlight before she padded swiftly yet gracefully over to the large boulder with a flat top and jumped up. As her paws landed on the rock, sand blown up from the wind fell from the force of her land, ending up back where it started on the hot ground. She pleasured in the feel of the hot desert sun warming her fur before she opened her mouth, revealing pointed white teeth as she yowled.
"May all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath Flat Boulder for a ceremony!"
Her yowl cut across the camp, dragging her cats out of their heat induced haze and summoning them to her. Her paws were heated by the rock beneath her, but being hardened by moons and moons of the desert ground, it had ceased to bother her. Her ocean blue eyes scanned the camp as she waited for the cats to gather so the ceremony could begin.
Rabbitstep padded out of the shady warriors den, crossed the clearing and sat down right in front of where Chinastar was standing. His carmel eyes showed curiosity as well as suprise. I wonder what the Ceremony is? I have no clue. The tawny long-legged warrior thought. "I wonder where Silentheart and Cactuaclaw are." Then the tom flicked his ears slightly impatiently as he heard Sandpaw sit next to him.
Sandpaw picked up a paw and started licking it, her eyes were on Chinastar. The fiesty apprentice had no desire whatsoever to talk to Rabbitstep or any cats around her.

Chinastar looked down at the cats and smiled reassuringly. A small wind blew through the camp, but not enough to even begin to cool down the desert heat. Chinastar shook her body, throwing clinging grains of sand to the ground. Her tail was held higher than normal as she began. Her clear blue gaze turned to the young apprentice sitting at the foot of the rock.
"Sandpaw. It has come to my attention that you are, as of now, without a mentor. I want to change that as soon as possible so you may begin on your way to being a full DesertClan warrior."
Her meow was loud, confident, and full of passion. She took her clan very seriously, and her eyes beamed with pride at the thought of leading another life toward her clan.
Sandpaw nodded as if she had known all along as the apprentice stepped forward. She hoped she would get a mentor who liked her the way she was, she was sick of warriors trying to make Sandpaw less than who she was, in other words more polite. She also didn't want Chinastar as her mentor for the simple reason that she knew that she would have to change.
Chinastar looked around, searching for the warrior she had already decided would mentor the feisty apprentice. Her tail twitched in frustration, and she smiled at Sandpaw as she meowed out her decision.
"Silentheart will be your mentor, Sandpaw. Train well, and learn fast. You will be a strong warrior one day."
She nodded as if satisfied with her own words, and leaped down, touching noses with the apprentice and padding around, checking to see if she was needed anywhere.
BiC:// Silentheart blinked. What a wonderful surprise! He got up and went to touch noses with Sandpaw, a chill running through him. He tried to smile at his new apprentice, hoping he would be a good mentor, "Thank you, Chinastar," He mewed, stepping away from his apprentice's nose. He then smiled at Rabbitstep.
After passing around the camp once, a sly smile from one of the queens reminded her of another ceremony she had to perform. She quickly made her way back to the rock, pleased to see that no cats had left yet. Her legs coiling under her and releasing like a loaded spring, she landed on the rock with a dull 'thud'. She turned her blue gaze back to her now curious clan-mates and smiled.
"Every six moons, I get to perform a ceremony. A kit being born is a joyous occasion in any clan, but watching that kit grow and become a strong, loyal, healthy warrior is a thing more precious than any clan boundaries. And today I get the privilege of furthering yet another apprentice on her way to being that strong warrior I have spoken of. Brightkit?" she called, her eyes waiting for the small kit.
Brightkit, focused on the charming butterfly that flew over her head, barely noticed Chinastar's announcement. The jaunty she-cat kept leaping over the beautiful, yet frail creature in the attempt to capture her. But the sun rays blocked her view, making it harder to follow its path. Once the butterfly had dissapeared, the bicolor kit sneered in dissapointment and turned to face, once again, her leader, who was over the massive boulder in the center of the camp. Brightkit yelped in astonishment once her name was announced and rushed towards Chinastar. She sat down besides Sandpaw, beaming at her fellow clanmates below her paws.
Chinastar smiled at the excited kit. Her eyes had a gleam to them, one that promised a good apprentice.
"Brightkit, today you are to become an apprentice. Are you ready to begin your journey, and uphold the warrior code?" She kept her eyes on Brightkit, serious yet understanding.
Brightkit beamed at Chinastar, grinning broadly. "Of course!" the pretty she-cat purred, delightfully, imagining the look on her mother's face if she saw her and feel regretful for abandoning her.
Chinastar nodded, seeming to know the kits thoughts before she continued with the ceremony.
"Then from this day on you shall be known as Brightpaw. Your mentor is Rabbitstep. Train well, and become a strong warrior for your clan. We need them now more than ever."
She took a few steps forward and touched noses with the newly named apprentice, smiling at Rabbitstep as she did so. Chinastar looked around for a few moments before calling forth yet another kit.
"Dapplekit! Come forth."
The calico she-cat jumped as her name was yowled from the leader's mouth. She was afraid she had done something wrong, and crept slowly forward to be judged in front of her clan.
Chinastar smiled down at the kit. "Congratulations, Dapplekit. From this day on you will be known as Dapplepaw. Your mentor will be none other than Foxfire, DesertClan's deputy himself. Train long and hard, and be a good warrior." She padded forward to touch noses with the apprentice.
Dapplepaw's eyes shone as she stepped away, looking around for Foxfire.

Brightpaw couldn't hide her broad grin. "Thank you Chinastar!" her high pitched voice shrieked as she stumbled away from the clearing, her pelt bristling in excitement. The sun's rays streamed through the camp while the calico apprentice marched by her fellow Dessertclanners.
